Why is Prayer Important?

Prayer is the cornerstone of a Muslim’s faith. It is the direct link between the worshipper and Allah. Performing Salah correctly and with devotion brings peace to the heart and soul. The Quran emphasizes the significance of maintaining regular prayers:

“حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ”
“Guard strictly your (habit of) prayers, especially the Middle Prayer; and stand before Allah in a devout (frame of mind).” (Quran 2:238)

Preparing for Prayer

Before starting the prayer, a Muslim must be in a state of cleanliness. This involves performing Wudu (ablution) if they are in a state of minor impurity, or Ghusl (full body purification) if they are in a state of major impurity. Cleanliness of the body, clothes, and place of prayer is essential.

Step 1: Facing the Qibla

Stand facing the Qibla (direction of the Kaaba in Mecca) with full body orientation, without any deviations.

Step 2: Intention (Niyyah)

Make the intention in your heart for the specific prayer you are about to perform. This intention does not need to be spoken out loud.

Step 3: Takbir al-Ihram

Raise your hands to the level of your shoulders and say:

Step 4: Placing Hands and Opening Supplication

Place your right hand over your left hand on your chest and recite the opening supplication:

Step 8: Ruku (Bowing)

Bow down while saying “الله أكبر”, then say:

While sitting, recite the Tashahhud:
